From JCM to the GRAMMYs:
A Message from Philip of ARKAI
Before becoming part of the Grammy‑winning electro‑acoustic string duo ARKAI, cellist Philip Sheegog was a young musician discovering his voice right here at JCM. ARKAI has since performed across the country, collaborated with world‑class artists, and earned national recognition for their innovative blend of classical, world, and contemporary sounds. Philip’s journey - from JCM ensembles to the Grammy stage - is a powerful reminder of where early chamber music experiences can lead.
Here is the message he shared with our JCM community:
“Years ago - way before my duo ever started - I got my start in chamber music with JCM in Southern California. It was actually through JCM that I took my first trip out here to NYC for an honors concert at Carnegie Hall.
I had no idea at the time how those years of training, memories, and friendships would stay with me for the rest of my life.
So if you’re looking at JCM, or if you’re currently involved, I really encourage you to check it out and keep going, because you never know how the seeds you’re planting now are going to stay with you forever in the best way possible.”
Philip’s story reflects exactly what we hope every JCM student carries with them: artistry, confidence, lifelong friendships, and a deep love for making music together.
