Chun-Yi Wang

Dr. ChunYi Wang started his piano studios in Greater Los Angeles Area since 1993, as a winner of the Rubinstein Scholarship, he attended the Juilliard School, where he earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees. He was awarded the Mary Clapp Howell Scholarship to continue his graduate studies at Yale University. With full scholarships, Mr. Wang made extensive studies at the Academy of the West Santa Barbara, CA; Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris, France; and Conservatorio Nazionale di Bologna, Italy, where he earned his Performance Diploma. He had earned the Doctoral of Musical Arts in Baku National Academy of Music, in Baku, the Capital of Azerbaijan (Former U.S.S.R.)

 

Dr. Wang had studied with Several Well-Known Teachers such as Robert Turner (Santa Monica), Joanna Graudan (Pacific Palisade), Ania Dorfmann (Juilliard), Oxana Yablonskaya (Juilliard), Jerome Lowenthal (Academy of the West, Santa Barbara, CA), Donald Currier (Yale University), Luigi Mostacci (Bologna, Italy), Jean Micault (Paris, France) Germaine Mounier (Paris, France), and Elena Luba-Dubinsky (Indiana University, Bloomington, IN). In addition, he has had master classes with Renowned Pianists-Claude Frank, Daniel Pollack, and Menahem Pressler.

 

Dr. Wang has won several coveted National and International Competitions including Music Teacher Association of California-MTAC-State Solo Competition, CA; California Association of Professional Music Teachers-CAPMT-High School Division Piano Competition, Five Towns-Young Pianist Competition, New York; Spain (Maria Canals, Barcelona), France (Ville de la Teste de Buch, Toulouse), and Italy (Citta di Marsala), Artist Diploma of the National Guild of Piano Teachers (NGPT) in Austin, Texas; and Was One of the Ten Awardees Globally as The Outstanding Overseas Chinese Young Adults by the World Federation of Overseas Chinese Immigrates in 2002.

 

Dr. Wang completed his Doctorate studies with World Leading Concert Pianist Oxana Yablonskaya at the National Academy of Music, Baku-Capital of Azerbaijan (Former USSR).
Over the years, Dr. Wang had performed in Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, San Diego, San Jose, San Francisco, St. Paul-Minnesota, New York City, London-United Kingdom, Barcelona-Spain, Paris-France, Bologna-Italy, Brussel-Belgium, Beijing-China and Taipei-Taiwan.

 

Dr. Wang had been serving as a State Evaluator for the Music Teacher Association of California (MTAC) Annual Certificate of Merit Level Exam since 1995. He had been actively judging for the Southwestern Youth Music Festival (SYMF) and the Southern California Junior Bach Festival (SCJBF), Also served as an active Chamber Music Coach at the Junior Chamber Music Program (JCM) since 2005 till present. Also, had served as a Performance Coach for JOC (Junior Original Composition) Program of the Yamaha-U.S. National Head Quarter in Buena Park, CA.

 

His pupils have passed the Advance Level on The Essential Evaluation System such as the Certificate of Merits-MTAC, The Overseas Grade Exams-ABRSM (Association Board of Royal School of Music), International Level Certification-NGPT, many have won top prizes at Local, National and International Festivals and Competitions including: the SYMF (Southwestern Youth Music Festival); SCJBF (Southern California Junior Bach Festival); Cypress College Competition; Los Angeles Elvin S. McGaughey Music Foundation-Glendale Piano Competition: MTAC State Solo and Concerto Competitions; Los Angeles International Liszt Competition; World Piano Competitions in Cincinnati, OH; International “Individualis” Piano Competition in Ukraine; Virginia Waring International Piano Competition in Palm Spring, CA; MTAC VOCE State Chamber Music Competition; John Walker Music Competition in Claremont, CA; Satori Strings Chamber Music Competition; and many of his students had performed at Carnegie-Weill Recital Hall under the Organization such as American Fine Arts Festival (AFAF), American Association for Development of the Gifted and Talented (AADGT), and American Protégé International Competition.

 

Over the years, Dr. Wang had participated in several diplomatic and cultural exchanged events including Taiwan Cultural Festival held at the Culture Center of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles in El Monte, Ceremony for National Day of Republic of China (Taiwan) and the Award Presentation-LOS ANGELES Department of Public Social Service.

 

Dr. Wang also encouraged and supervised students in giving charity concerts for the needy with victims of natural disasters and underprivileged children for World Vision, UNICEF and so forth.

 

Among Dr. Wang's students, several had been admitted into the Reputable Universities such as Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, U-Penn, Columbia, Brown, Cornell, Carnegie-Mellon, Boston University, New York University, Pepperdine University plus UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC Davis, UC San Diego and UC Irvine, Furthermore, Prestigious Music Schools such as The Juilliard School, NYC; John Hopkins University-Peabody Institute of Music, Maryland; Northwestern, Illinois and USC, and many more.

 

Dr. Wang was named National Honor-Roll for His Achievements and Excellence in Piano Teaching on the National Guild of Piano Teachers a division of the American College of Musicians, founded in 1929 by Dr. Irl, Allison Currently, Dr. Wang is affiliated with Playtime Music Center in Temple City, CA; Yamaha School of Music in Diamond Bar, CA; and currently with Lyceum Village-Music Department, Tustin, CA.
